Instant Drama is an accordion fold book of black and white portraits of classic movie stars caught at dramatic moments of dialogue or action. The photos are screenshots taken with a specialty Polaroid camera.
This project was inspired by the bookâworks of Ed Ruscha, and the concepts of readymade art... in this case the actors are treated as "found objects" and their image is decontextualized by re-photographing them as stand alone portraits.
Polaroids: Selections from the J. Edwards Collection is a limited edition set of books representing favourites from my Polaroid archives.
This includes a book of colour Polaroids and a book of black and white Polaroids. A simple gray textured band was used for the packaging.
A second edition was printed in 2009. Foreword revision, bound in grey book cloth, and packaged in a slipcase.
Famous Printers is a one of a kind edition softcover. Black and white Polaroids were taken of classmates, then printed by lithographic plate, one to each page. The cover was screen printed.
Among the Heaps is an edition of four hardcover artist books. A small box of black and white negatives were found at the Vancouver flea market depicting snapshots of two Canadian soldiers in Paris during 1945. Each negative was printed in the darkroom (by Brendon Hartley) and then mounted onto the pages of the books, offering an interpreted narrative of this lost story. The book was designed to fit inside an enlarged replica of the box that the negatives were found in.
